Big Iron systems are nothing new to Fujitsu. It sold large multiprocessor UNIX® SPARC64® PRIMEPOWER® and mainframe GlobalServer (GS) systems for years. Fujitsu is no stranger to Intel® chips either. Its current PRIMERGY® line includes modest-sized Xeon™ and Itanium® 2 systems with up to four sockets. But Fujitsu's recently unveiled PRIMEQUEST® systems are both large and Itanium-based. Announced last month in San Francisco, these new systems complement large scale-up capability in Windows® and Linux environments—where Fujitsu didn't previously have a product.

The companies combined their respective computer cluster and disk storage array-based asynchronous data communications capabilities. This demonstrated that the Sales and Distribution module of the SAP® R/3® application could recover from a simulated disaster in Hopkinton, Massachusetts in the U.S., and restart in Cork, Ireland in less than five minutes.
